PUBG is going free – all hell is breaking loose on Steam
The Battle Royale hit PUBG: Battlegrounds is a fixture on Steam and consistently graces the top spots of the platform’s most-played games. Despite the huge popularity, the shooter’s rating has had mixed reviews for quite some time.
But since January 12, the surge in reviews overall—and negative ones in particular—has taken on a whole new dimension. Reason is that recent switch of the once paid game to a free-to-play model. This seems to bother the players particularly badly (source: Steam).
What bothers players about the shooter?
Taking a look at the over 4,000 negative reviews, which were rewritten on January 12, it becomes clear that the change in the payment model is only an opportunity to criticize existing problems. The biggest of these is a Cheaters and hackers problem.
The lack of will on the part of the developers to fix this, but to become active when the cost model is changed, annoys the players. They also fear that the shooter’s matches will now attract even more cheaters could, after all, the missing purchase price put the hurdles even lower.
Others complain that they once the full purchase price spent on the battle royale game while it’s now free and are demanding their money back. After all, many state that PUBG is a really good game that just became unenjoyable due to the ongoing cheater issues.
