Originally announced for “November”, the RTX version of Portal is finally postponed to the beginning of December.

In the meantime, the original game is currently on sale at… 97 cents.

The perfect opportunity to (re)discover Portal

Announced a few weeks ago, along with the new NVIDIA GeForce 4080 and 4090 graphics cards, Portal with RTX will be a little late. Do not panic however, since the release initially announced for the month of November simply slips to December 8 next. There will therefore not be too much to wait to go back through the corridors of this cult reflection FPS.

For the record, this is a free DLC for players who already own the Valve game released in 2007. And if it’s not already in your Steam game library (which is highly unlikely as it has been sold/given away since its release), it is currently less than one euro during the autumn sales.

Towards RTX in more old games?

Portal with RTX was designed using RTX Remix, an NVIDIA tool that brings old titles up to date using recent technologies (RTX, DLSS, etc.). In addition, this DLC supports DLSS 3. Enough to take advantage of the best version of NVIDIA’s AI upscaling tool, provided you are equipped with one of the manufacturer’s latest graphics cards. Otherwise, you will have to settle for DLSS 2.

A list of recommended specifications is also available. To enjoy RTX in 1080p at 60 frames per second on Portal, a “simple” NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 accompanied by a Ryzen 5 3600 or Intel i7-9700K processor will obviously do the trick. To switch to 4K and enjoy even better graphics, you will have to be the proud owner of an RTX 4080 and an even more muscular CPU. Below an RTX 3060, you will have to settle for 30 frames per second, even with DLSS 2. This DLC is therefore very greedy on paper and requires 25 GB of storage space.
