Version 8.0 of the Post & DHL app also supports the announcement of letters sent via Deutsche Post. Users of the app in version 8.0 for Android and iOS can also view the envelopes as photos in advance, as the Deutsche Post DHL Group announced on Tuesday. In order to be able to use the function, existing customers must book it free of charge and, if necessary, validate their postal address.
Booking and verification
To confirm the address, a code must be entered, which will be sent by post.
Letters on their way can now be tracked in advance in the Post & DHL app like parcels from DHL and, if applicable, consignments from Deutsche Post. In order to be able to use the letter announcement, the free service must first be activated in the app. This requires registration in advance. DHL customers who are already registered in the app log in with their account as usual. In the latest version 8.0 submerged “Pursue” next to the tab “Shipment tracking” now a tab “Letter Announcement” where you can book the service. To do this, existing customers must check their postal data and resubmit their postal address.
A few days later, a confirmation letter with a confirmation code should arrive by post. The 12-digit code then has to be entered in the app for address verification. Customers who have already verified their address within the last six months can get started right away. The service is then immediately available in the app.
As the Post explains in its message, photos of the envelopes of letters in transit are also displayed. The recordings are made automatically in the sorting centers. The “German data protection and security standards” should be observed, assures the Deutsche Post DHL Group.
Extension of the letter announcement
Deutsche Post has been offering letter announcements by e-mail for users of the e-mail service providers GMX and Web.de of the Internet group 1&1 since July 2020. Since then, users of this letter announcement by e-mail have also been able to examine photos of the envelopes and, if desired, the content as a PDF in advance. The mails are then PGP-encrypted. With the letter notification by post & DHL app, however, the service is now accessible to a broader audience and not just reserved for GMX and Web.de customers. However, there is no option in the app to view the content in advance.
