“Pour it on me” – New Year’s Eve trail: “Mushroom mug” as a drinking hurdle

The Vienna New Year’s Eve Trail attracted 800,000 visitors last year and a similar influx is expected again this year, despite the somewhat cloudy weather (see video above). The restaurant has been open since 11 a.m., but the official New Year’s Eve mug is causing problems for some people when enjoying the punch…

Punch, live music, lucky charms and culinary delights – the Vienna New Year’s Eve Trail has a lot to offer. But shortly after the restaurant opened, visitors reported having problems enjoying the hot drinks. The beak of a mug as a drinking hurdle. A stumbling block: The official New Year’s Eve mug in the shape of a lucky mushroom. The design is the same as last year, but this year there is an additional “spout” in the cup, which is actually supposed to make drinking easier. “Krone” photographer Peter Tomschi was on site: However, some drinkers complained to “Krone” that they had spilled on themselves while drinking the mostly alcoholic drinks. “I then got myself a straw,” reported a visitor. “I tried to drink Amaretto-Pusch, but then I gave the punch back and bought myself a beer,” reports another visitor. “Take the feedback seriously.” When asked by the City of Vienna Marketing, they said that so far have not received any negative feedback, but of course take the matter seriously: “We will definitely take this into account next year,” emphasized press spokesman Noah Schönhart to krone.at. Ultimately, they want visitors to be able to enjoy the New Year’s Eve trail to the fullest. The top priority is therefore the safety of the guests, and great importance is attached to this. “We are in constant communication with the emergency services organizations.” The organizer himself has “several hundred” security guards on duty, the exact number of course remains secret. They coordinate with the police and there is also their own operations center. Safety in focus With the two additional locations in front of the Ferris wheel and at the town hall square, we expect to reach last year’s number of visitors again this year. “But the top priority is the safety and the wonderful experience of our guests,” said spokesman Schönhart. Police chief: “We are perfectly positioned.” There was also a lot going on in the restaurants in Vienna’s city center, even if it was noticeable that New Year’s Eve was approaching this year Sunday falls. In front of the Black Cameel we met, among others, former local councilor Berti Holub and police chief Gerhard Pürstl with his wife. The police chief emphasized that he was absolutely satisfied with his department’s contingent: “We are perfectly positioned. Some colleagues from the federal states also came to support us in Vienna.” But it wasn’t just the top restaurants that were well attended, there were also long queues at the Alles Wurscht sausage stand at the Börseplatz. So if you wanted to enjoy regional delicacies with a modern twist, you had to be patient. As was the case at Christmas, the police presence was significantly increased; uniformed officers in full gear could be seen, especially at Stephansplatz. Due to the generally increased risk situation, searches and access controls could also be carried out, as the Interior Ministry and the Directorate for State Security and Intelligence (DSN) announced on Friday.
