President explains – Great demand for PCR tests in pharmacies

The need for PCR tests in Burgenland continues to be enormous. Despite the 2G rule, many certificates with a negative result are still required for events or in one’s own family circle. The pharmacies are running at full capacity, the laboratories are almost reaching their limits. A large number of customers are unsettled. 185 pharmacists in the country are overwhelmed with questions, the chamber president clarifies.

“Pharmacies are among the most important test providers in Austria and are therefore pioneers internationally,” says Dieter Schmid, President of the Burgenland Chamber of Pharmacists. 38 of 42 public pharmacies currently offer free PCR tests.

“This means that the population has access to a comprehensive range of tests that are close to where they live, which is also being continuously expanded with regard to the stricter entry and workplace requirements,” explains Schmid. “PCR gargle tests for at home are a good addition to the range. The PCR tests using a nasopharynx swab in pharmacies are even safer, ”he notes.
