Presidential 2022: how to register online on the electoral rolls

It is possible to register on the electoral rolls via the Internet. If you want to participate in the presidential election, you have until March 2, 2022. The process only takes a few minutes.

That’s it: we are in the year of the French presidential election. On April 10 and 24, 2022, the two rounds of voting will take place and French women and men will be called to the polls to choose whoever will guide the country’s policy for the next five years. But to participate, you still have to be on the electoral roll.

The good news is that voter registration is possible online. It is very quick to do, free, and, above all, the procedure is possible until March 2, 2022, a little more than a month before the election. For those who want to participate in this electoral event, you must go to the space provided for this purpose and connect with FranceConnect.

Register on the electoral roll

The process then begins with a reminder of the few documents that you will have to gather to complete your request:

  • Proof of identity (such as the national identity card);
  • Proof showing a link with the voting municipality (an electricity bill can be used as proof of address or an invoice for an Internet subscription).

The form will then ask you for information on your identity, which must be filled in: name, first names, date of birth, place of birth (the municipality for France, the country and the municipality in the event of birth abroad), sex, nationality (citizens of the European Union can vote, but only for municipal and European).

The Service-Public site offers an additional page which allows you to respond to more or less common cases, which could have an effect on the process. This page is aimed in particular at voters who are going to move, people who are going to be 18 years old, individuals who have acquired French nationality or compatriots living abroad.

Once these elements have been communicated, with the documents mentioned above, the Service-Public site asks you for the municipality you are targeting, with your postal address – which will be used in particular to send you electoral propaganda (yes, it is the official term). Note that the following formats are accepted for supporting documents: PDF, JPG, JPEG and PNG.

Regarding the files to provide to the administration, be aware that you do not necessarily need to scan them.

To scan your passport or national identity card, you can use an application like Microsoft Lens (available for Android and iOS) and then send it to you by email. As for the invoice, it can be found in your customer area, depending on the service you want to use (your electricity supplier, your Internet service provider, etc.).

After this step, you will still have a few validation steps to go through and requests to complete. Note that the Service-Public site makes another space available to find out about their electoral situation. Useful if you first want to check whether you are on the lists or not and, therefore, whether to start this process or not.
