Having entered the presidential campaign for nearly a month, Christiane Taubira has a short time to prepare for the deadline for the first round of the election, scheduled for April 10. In order to mobilize her support, the one who presents herself as the candidate of the union of the left will be in a meeting this Saturday February 12, at 3 p.m., in the Georges Duhamel room in Créteil (Val-de-Marne).
Christiane Taubira’s journey as a candidate for the 2022 presidential election began with a victory in the Popular Primary. At the end of January, she indeed won this citizen consultation which brought together 392,000 participants.

But since then, the former Minister of Justice has struggled to build her plan for a union of the left. Tuesday, February 8, she renewed her call for the gathering of her political family, just after a meeting between her teams and that of the environmental candidate, Yannick Jadot. A prospect which, for the time being, has not allowed him to take off in the polls. The latest Opinionway barometer for CNEWS credits it with 4% of voting intentions.
“The polls, they go, they come, it’s not likely to worry me,” had tempered the former Keeper of the Seals, during a trip to Montreuil. “On the ground, the rally, I live it”, assured the one whose supporters affirm that she “is not the candidate of a party”.
Indeed, Christiane Taubira relies in particular on the many Committees bearing her name, many of which were formed even before she entered the campaign. Relying, among other things, on the result of the popular Primary, they bet on “an obvious base of voters for her in recent weeks”.
Sponsorship and funding pressure
On the side of her opponents, the question of sponsorship and financing is more readily highlighted, which is more pressing for Christiane Taubira, in particular because of her late entry into the campaign. As of February 10, the candidate thus had 47 validated sponsorships, far behind her competitors.
Recognizing a “real subject”, the main interested party does not, however, let herself be destabilized. “My candidacy is supported by 400,000 citizens. When we have such a base, can we be stopped by the fact that there are no sponsorships?” she asked Thursday evening on RTL.
Not to mention that the former Keeper of the Seals enjoys the support of the Radical Left Party, whose president, Guillaume Lacroix, has counted “282 possible sponsorships, and at present, an increase of 170 promises”. It remains to be seen whether Christiane Taubira will be able to benefit from the “Oath of Romainville”, named after this collective of elected officials who, on the sidelines of the Popular Primary, had chosen to reserve their sponsorships for those who would gather on the left.
As far as funding is concerned, her team relies above all on donations, potentially from those, numbering 200,000, who granted Christiane Taubira a “very good” during the popular Primary. In parallel, the mobilization continues, with a door-to-door campaign and public meetings. One gathering per week is planned in February, before increasing to two in March.
