The mayor LR of Meaux believes that his party would bring a “balance” and a link with the “reality of the French” to the government of the outgoing president.
The rapprochements continue to take place in this between-two-rounds. On France Info this Tuesday morning, the LR mayor of Meaux and former boss of the UMP, Jean-François Copé, pleaded for a government pact with Emmanuel Macron. A decision which joins that of Nicolas Sarkozy, but goes against the position expressed by several members of his political family where several executives refuse to call clearly to vote for the outgoing president against Marine Le Pen in the second round.

“Of course, I hear a very strong protest vote, but I also see the reality on the ground“, first declared the city councilor from Ile-de-France, who recalls that “The Republicans is the most rooted party in France on the territory“. According to him, working hand in hand with the right-wing party would therefore make it possible to “rebalance things“. “If the second five-year term is exactly the same as the first, the worst is to be feared“, he warned, referring to “this kind of solitary monarchy» which it is urgent to «to go out“.

“A reinforcement on the political courage part”
A government pact would therefore make it possible, according to him, to have “a pillar that participates in public action in areas where Macron is failing: security, sovereign issues (…) but also reforms“. “Emmanuel Macron’s interest is to have reinforcement on the political courage part, on the implantation part on the territories, the regions, the departments, the cities“, he pleaded. Before calling for a return in the next term, if the outgoing president is re-elected, with “the reality of the French“.
Clear since Sunday evening on his vote for the second round, Jean-François Copé also castigated the procrastination of some. “I see with sadness LR, what is left of it, going astray by not assuming to oppose very strongly the far right“, he thus declared. During the political office which met Monday at the headquarters of the Republicans, the hypothesis of a potential alliance with the presidential majority quickly arrived on the table, in particular defended by the deputy of Yonne Guillaume Larrivé, in addition to Jean -Francois Cope. The latter even pleads for the creation of a “majority pact” after the legislative elections, but at this stage comes up against broad internal opposition.
