If voting intentions seem to be leveling off for Eric Zemmour, he continues to attract new support. After Guillaume Peltier, who came from the Republicans, it was Jérôme Rivière, MEP for the National Rally, who formalized his rallying to the far-right candidate.
On LCI, he justified this departure from the RN “for reasons of conviction” and because he was convinced that Marine Le Pen was not “in a position to gather”.

“I find that Eric Zemmour, when he entered the campaign at the end of last year, to make an observation concerning the position of France which spoke to my convictions”, thus assured the one who was still one of the spokespersons for the presidential campaign of Marine Le Pen on Wednesday.
Following this defection, the elected European announced that he had resigned from the National Rally and from his post as head of the RN delegation within the Identity and Democracy group in the European Parliament. A post, which, he assures him, was important, despite the minimization of his departure by the camp of Marine Le Pen.

“The National Rally is made up of 23 European parliamentarians, six French parliamentarians. For more than two and a half years, I was the boss of these 23 European parliamentarians. For the National Rally, it was the institutional position that existed”, highlighted Jérôme Rivière.
Marine Le Pen, traveling to Fréjus, reacted for her part to this departure by assuring that this rallying would lead “zero political impact because Jérôme Rivière had zero impact within the National Rally”. She also denounced “duplicity of behavior” insisting that the MP’s departure was not a surprise. “Jérôme Rivière had harbored an undeniable bitterness, because he hoped for positions within the National Rally, which I considered, which he could not obtain”, she detailed.

On the side of Eric Zemmour’s camp, the arrival in the ranks of the MEP was seen very enthusiastically, shortly after that of the deputy and former LR Guillaume Peltier, who now occupies the same position as Jérôme Rivière within Reconquête !.
In a press release, the party of the former columnist indicated that his departure from the RN symbolized “this union of rights carried by Reconquête!, demanded by millions of French people. This rallying of a president of a parliamentary group marks a new important step towards union.”
Marine Le Pen assured that if new defections could occur, she did not fear a flight to the party of the new far-right candidate, recalling the difficult campaign that the latter was leading.
While he was credited with between 12 and 15% of the voting intentions in October, while he had not yet formalized his candidacy, Eric Zemmour is gradually falling in the polls, positioning himself at 11.5% in the last ” rolling” by Ifop-Fidicual for LCI. His electoral campaign is in a difficult phase between repeated controversies, difficulties in obtaining 500 signatures and a busy legal agenda. On Monday, he was sentenced to a fine of 10,000 euros for incitement to hatred for his remarks about unaccompanied migrant minors.
