Presidential 2022: should a power of attorney be redone for the second round?

The second round of the presidential election will be held this Sunday, April 24. If you cannot go to the polls, you can make a power of attorney. However, if you had already made a proxy for the first round, it will not necessarily be necessary to make a new one. Explanations.

During the first round of the presidential election, many French people made a proxy to vote. If you are in this case, when you applied for the first round, you had to find out whether the power of attorney only concerned the first round, or both rounds. If you have correctly indicated the second option, you do not have to make another power of attorney. The person nominated for the first round does not necessarily have to be the same in the second round.

Check your electoral situation

To check if you have done everything correctly, you can go to the service-public.fr website. You will then have to fill in your personal information (polling station, polling district, surname, first name, date of birth, and gender) and you will obtain all the information concerning your electoral situation: national voter number, address of your polling station , as well as all the necessary information for your proxies.

Three solutions for making a power of attorney

However, if you did not make a proxy in the first round and you wish to make one for the second, it is always possible, and this until the morning of the ballot. Be careful all the same, it is preferable to make your power of attorney as soon as possible so that it is properly recorded. It takes a little time for your request to be sent and for your polling station to be notified in time. To do this, you have three solutions:

1 – The Myproxy teleservice which allows you to complete an online form to receive a “Myproxy” registration reference. You will then have to have your application validated by physically going to a police station, gendarmerie or consulate. On site you will have to present your registration reference and your identity document, you will then receive an email from your town hall informing you that your power of attorney has been registered, a few minutes after verifying your identity.

2 – The form available online that you must complete and print. You must then go in person to a police station, a gendarmerie, the judicial court of your place of work or residence, or a consulate. You will need to submit your form there as well as present your identity document to validate the power of attorney.

3 – The form (Cerfa n° 12668*03) available at the police station, the gendarmerie, the court or the consulate. You will have to complete it by hand on site and present your identity document in person in order to validate your power of attorney.
