Three days before the first round of the presidential election, the candidate of Europe Ecology-The Greens (EELV) is struggling in the polls. But if he is elected, Yannick Jadot has a first clear and precise objective from his first days at the Élysée: to make the fight against global warming the cornerstone of his five-year term.
While average temperatures, directly linked to human activities, continue to climb in the world and in France (+1.5°C since 1850), Yannick Jadot intends to fight against this scourge over the next five years.
The EELV candidate for the presidential election is betting a lot on the climate in his program and aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by the end of the decade.
Like most experts, the ecologist notes that the transport sector is the one that emits the most greenhouse gases. To deal with this, Yannick Jadot plans to stop the marketing of thermal vehicles, and wishes to insist on the need to electrify cars and invest massively in the bicycle sector thanks to the “bicycle fund”, which will be increased by 500 million euros. euros per year if he arrives at the Elysée.
The ecologist has also developed an investment plan of five billion euros and a reduction in VAT to 5.5% on transport tickets. He also wants to relaunch 15 night train lines. This measure will cost around four billion euros.
A green transition without nuclear power
Yannick Jadot wants to invest 10 billion euros per year for the thermal renovation of energy sieves, i.e. poorly insulated housing and buildings. Also, the ecologist plans to shut down at least 10 nuclear reactors by 2035 and end nuclear power eventually.
“The only certainty we have is that we have an aging, increasingly dangerous and intermittent nuclear fleet (…) We will first close the oldest and most dangerous reactors. It will be gradual and controlled. It will take 15, 20, or 25 years,” he explained.
The candidate also plans to install 6,000 additional wind turbines and then improve the performance of the existing ones.
On the social level, Yannick Jadot’s first measure would be to immediately increase the minimum wage by 10%. This would thus be increased to 1,500 euros net per month by 2027. On the employment side, the candidate wishes to strengthen the CDI.
While the poverty rate exceeds 14%, Yannick Jadot wants to establish a citizen income of 920 euros per month, automatic and accessible from the age of 18, which should make it possible to eradicate great precariousness. Among his projects, the EELV candidate also plans to build 700,000 social housing units.
100% organic consumption in canteens
The second biggest emitter of greenhouse gases in France, the agricultural sector is also one of Yannick Jadot’s priorities. The ecologist intends to develop municipal farms to raise public awareness and facilitate the integration of young people to revalorize agricultural trades. In addition, the candidate wishes to turn to a peasant model. This aims to ban pesticides and synthetic fertilizers and support communities towards 100% organic in canteens.
Always with the idea of protecting the climate, the pretender to the presidential sermon wants to put an end to intensive breeding. “The animal must be considered legally as a sensitive being”, specifies Yannick Jadot in his program. For this presidential election, the EELV candidate plans to step up his efforts around the issue of animal welfare.
A ministry dedicated to animal welfare

Supporter of the animal cause, Yannick Jadot intends to create a defender of animal rights. “Its mission will be to publicize and make animal rights effective and to establish and publish the annual report of animal welfare violations as well as a delegated ministry for animal welfare,” he says. his program.
