This Tuesday morning, Emmanuel Macron’s troops are gathered at the “Rocher”, the campaign headquarters of the head of state, who is still not officially a candidate. Édouard Philippe is missing, since he fell out with Emmanuel Macron. Campaign teams fear that the president-candidate will be overvalued in the polls.
Crucial meeting this morning at the “Rocher”, the name given to Emmanuel Macron’s campaign headquarters in Paris. About twenty people will take part in this first major campaign coordination meeting. All the leaders of the presidential majority will be present, namely those of La République en Marche of course, but also the Modem, Agir or Territories of Progress. But there will be an absentee to note: Édouard Philippe, at odds with the head of state. The former Prime Minister was not even represented according to our information.
During this meeting, it will be a question of the official distribution of positions but also of sponsorships, to ensure that a maximum of elected officials support Emmanuel Macron on “d-day”. Donations will also be discussed. With a double objective: first of all of course, the financing of the campaign, but also a militant goal.
Winning back the hearts of voters
Emmanuel Macron wants to be sure to win back the hearts of the 24% of voters who trusted him in the first round in 2017. And for those around him, someone who gives money, even a small sum, is often the best of ambassadors.
In the mind of the Head of State, the end of the health crisis rhymes with the start of the presidential campaign. And Emmanuel Macron really wants stewardship to follow from the start. Especially since several relatives consider him today as overvalued in the polls. Some even mention a difference of a few points between him and Marine Le Pen.
Finally, the purpose of this meeting is to stage the organization of the campaign. Because in truth, the whole design takes place at the Élysée, essentially around two people: the secretary general Alexis Kholer for the program, and the special adviser Clément Léonarduzzi, for the strategy.
