According to the official count available on the website of the Constitutional Council, the leader of rebellious France, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, now has 540 signatures of elected officials. Eight candidates crossed the fateful bar of 500 signatures.

And eight. A few days before the fateful date of March 4, Jean-Luc Mélenchon enters the circle of contenders for the presidential election who can officially submit to the vote of the French to hope to succeed Emmanuel Macron. According to the official count of the Constitutional Council, the leader of rebellious France collected 540 signatures, or 40 more than the 500 needed to present himself. He thus joins Valérie Pécresse (2271), Emmanuel Macron (1544), Anne Hidalgo (1226), Yannick Jadot (615), Fabien Roussel (593), Jean Lassalle (579) and Nathalie Arthaud (562).

One week to get 500 signatures

For the other candidates, the noose begins to tighten to obtain the sacrosanct signatures, since a week is missing before the ax falls. For the moment, the trio Nicolas-Dupont Aignan, Eric Zemmour and Marine Le Pen are the most likely to cross this threshold, since they have respectively 457, 415 and 414 signatures. The situation is more precarious for all the other contenders, who have not yet collected half of the signatures.
