Presidential Le Pen in the lead in Izieu: four ballots that shake a symbol


There are municipalities for which the result of the Presidential is more eloquent than for others.

This is the case of Izieu, the small town of 222 inhabitants, “229” says the mayor, which houses the Memorial to the exterminated Jewish children. On April 6, 1944, 44 children and 7 educators were kidnapped on the orders of Klaus Barbie, deported and killed in Auschwitz.

The voters placed Marine Le Pen in the lead in the first and second rounds. Only four ballots separated the two candidates for the Élysée on Sunday, but 4 ballots which make all the symbolism of this result. Accustomed to them, even tired of them for a good number of years, the inhabitants do not wait for the media to tell their story, but do so in a weary way.

And the warning sign seems to flash at every corner of Izieu’s lane: beware of amalgams, beware of stigmatization.
