Hoeneß trusts Lewandowski with a great political career
As a world footballer, Robert Lewandowski breaks one record after another at Bayern. Even after his career, Bayern legend Uli Hoeneß expects great things from the attacker – maybe even as premier in Poland.
Long-time Bayern patron Uli Hoeneß can imagine world footballer Robert Lewandowski in a top position in politics after his career has ended. Lewandowski was “well rested and has clear ideas about life,” said the 69-year-old Hoeneß the “kicker”. “I would even trust Robert to become Prime Minister in Poland if he got into politics.”
His skills could open a few doors for him even after he has retired. Hoeneß perceives Lewandowski as a person “who thinks a lot”. Bavaria’s Torgarant is also an “intelligent fellow” who has a “clear view of the world”.
Lewandowski has been storming for FC Bayern Munich since summer 2014. The 33-year-old had set the next record with his 4-0 goal against VfL Wolfsburg at the end of the first half of the Bundesliga. It was the Poland’s 43rd league goal in 2021 – so far, the recently deceased Gerd Müller held the record with 42 goals from 1972.
Lewandowski is an “uncanny identification figure, especially internationally,” said Hoeneß of the professional who was recognized by “Kicker” as “Personality of the Year” in 2021. Since 1990, the trade magazine has honored not only the performance but also the personality of top footballers. Lewandowski’s predecessor was national coach Hansi Flick.
“He set new standards with his game and goals,” said the former Bayern coach. “I still remember my childhood, how I emulated the best strikers as a little boy. My idol was Gerd Müller, I wanted to score goals, decide games, wanted to be what Gerd Müller was. Gerd Müller for Today’s kids is Robert Lewandowski, “said Flick.
Lewandowski became diplomatic after receiving his honor. Sport should “always connect, never separate, in sport as in life fair play should always come first,” he said. “And if my attitude on the pitch and my work are honored with the” Kicker “award as Personality of the Year, I can assure you that I am very proud of it. It is the perfect end to the year.”
