Who is it with?
The film focuses on a young woman named Daphne, played by Shailene Woodley, who is in all the scenes. Revealed by the series The Secret Life of an Ordinary Teenager, the 30-year-old actress, who was the star of the saga for teens Divergent, is also a regular in independent projects. In recent years, we have seen her in the acclaimed series Big Little Lies or Designated Guilty with Tahar Rahim.
The two men who capsize her heart are interpreted by Jamie Dornan, hero of the Fifty Shades of Gray trilogy and soon to be shown in Belfast, and Sebastian Stan, the Winter Soldier of the Marvel universe, currently in the credits of the Pam & Tommy series on Disney+.
Matthew Gray Gubler (Criminal Minds) as Daphne’s ex, Lindsay Sloane (The Odd Couple) as her sister, Wendie Malick (The Ranch) as her mother and finally Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer) as the role of one of her friends completes the cast.

What could only be a variation on the theme of the love triangle, so dear to works of fiction, is in reality more of a feature film on the journey of a young woman who tries to take herself in hand. And if his inner journey is not very original, it is still moving, thanks in particular to the interpretation of the brilliant Shailene Woodley.
When she has just left the man with whom she shared four years of her life but also her job after an evening with colleagues that went wrong, Daphne is determined to stay away from alcohol and romantic relationships.
But fate decides otherwise. At a New Year’s Eve party, she alternately meets two very different but instantly attracted men: the author and teacher Jack (Dornan) and the unpredictable Frank (Stan).
And learning that her two suitors are in fact close friends will not prevent Daphne from starting a rather conventional relationship with the first, while living a passionate and carnal adventure with the second. A precarious balance that is shattered after an unexpected development…

In addition to the impeccable Shailene Woodley, the actors all have the opportunity to shine, especially Jamie Dornan and Sebastian Stan. Especially since the film was shot very freely, the script by Drake Doremus and Jardine Libaire only giving the outline of the plot, leaving the actors the possibility of improvising most of their dialogues.
Without revolutionizing the genre, Endings, Beginnings is a nice film about the inner journey of a young woman who believes that her problems come from a not very happy childhood but who little by little finds the courage to stop making excuses and to finally live the life she chose.
