Prime Video: it’s official, the advertising arrives at the beginning of April in France


The advertising on Prime Video was put in place on January 29 in the United States, we knew its imminent arrival in France… and it has just been confirmed this Wednesday. Amazon’s streaming platform announced to its French subscribers that the service’s programs would include advertising from April 9, 2024, unless you pay.

€1.99 per month to avoid advertising

It was via an email sent to its customers that Prime Video revealed a “update” of its service. We learn that if the price of the subscription remains at €6.99/month, “Prime Video films and series will include advertising in limited quantities.” A choice which, according to Amazon, “will allow us to continue investing in attractive content and increase investments over the long term.”

Although the duration of these ads is not known, we know that they should vary between 15 and 60 seconds each, for a total not exceeding three and a half minutes per hour. Amazon specifies that it is looking for “to have significantly fewer advertisements than traditional linear television and other streaming services.”

Just like with YouTube, Disney+ and Netflix, a solution exists to avoid advertisements: pay an additional €1.99 per month, which increases your subscription to around nine euros.

For comparison, the subscription with Disney+ advertising is €5.99/month, and that without advertising is €8.99. On the Netflix side, the offer with advertising is also €5.99, but you have to pay €13.49 per month to avoid advertising. Prime Video therefore remains relatively less expensive than its main rivals.

Finally, the Prime Video email specifies that — for the moment — customers in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg will not see advertising, and that live events (such as sports) will continue to be broadcast. display advertising.
