Prime Video: only a few days left to see the series that hit Donald Trump the hardest

From 2017 to 2022, “The Good Wife” creators Robert and Michelle King signed on for one of the most political series of recent years. This is “The Good Fight”, the little sister of the legal series.

Set in a black law firm in Chicago, the legal series The Good Fight hit the small screen right after Donald Trump was elected. The series also opens with the state of amazement of its heroine Diane Lockhart – played by the divine Christine Baranski – on the evening of the results.

Few shows have rooted their premises as deeply in opposition to the Trump presidency as The Good Fight. After her fortune is swallowed up by a Ponzi scheme, Diane quickly finds new momentum in law and decides to make it a vehicle for justice, hence the opening credits which showcase the props of her former existence – luxury handbags, wine bottles and conference phones and, most recently, images of the former president – exploding in slow motion.

Throughout its six seasons, The Good Fight has proven to be the only series capable of highlighting with incredible humor and accuracy the surreal nature of the Trump presidency and the consequences that flow from it after his departure from the White House. A feat that screenwriters Robert and Michelle King seemed to relish, for example, introducing a character strongly evoking Roy Cohn (played by Michael Sheen), a lawyer known for leading McCarthy’s witch hunt despite being gay himself. or by directly addressing the matter of “Pissgate” Of the president.

But The Good Fight has also been surprisingly introspective, always questioning the limits of Diane’s feminism, forged on the basis of her experience alone, especially in a predominantly black workplace. A theme that became prominent during the Trump years, when black, trans and other women from minority groups saw their most basic rights threatened and for some simply abolished.

Although an unwavering ally of those threatened by the Trump presidency, Diane has had to question her own privileges more than once. And this, always with finesse and without a moralizing side. The complexity and intelligence of the series is also expressed through the marriage of Diane and Kurt (Gary Cole) who is part of the conservative Republicans. Their love story was one of the best illustrated on television in recent years.

The Good Fight is the latest series to look America straight in the eye. Highlighting all its faults, all its shortcomings, but without ever losing the hope of seeing the emergence of a fairer and more harmonious society. All in all a very good series.

You have until July 5 to see The Good Fight on Prime Video.
