The first two films of the “Star Trek” reboots signed JJ Abrams will definitively leave the catalog of the Amazon Prime Video platform on January 15th!
Rare are the reboots to do honor to the sagas they revisit… And yet in this category, Star Trek is largely an exception.
Released in 2009, this feature film by JJ Abrams (a few years before the filmmaker joined the galaxy… Star Wars) nevertheless succeeded in the complicated gamble of bringing the famous franchise back to center stage, through a prequel reboot… also designed as a sequel to the previous films!
Using the principle of time travel, JJ Abrams thus placed the action of Star Trek in an alternate universe, allowing the original Spock played by Leonard Nimoy to meet a younger version of himself, played by Zachary Quinto.
Captain Kirk, then a young hothead from the Starfleet Academy, is camped by Chris Pine, a choice dubbed by the original interpreter of the character William Shatner (who was not asked to appear in this reboot).
The film also has the particularity of having seen Chris Hemsworth play his very first role in the cinema, in the skin of George Kirk (the father of the future captain) in the opening scene, a role that the Australian actor should have found in a fourth film that ultimately never saw the light of day!
A tribute to the 1966 series and its six spin-off films, coupled with a work that fits into the codes of the modern blockbuster with the aim of introducing the license to a general public, Star Trek was crowned with great success, allowing JJ Abrams to be confirmed as the new master of the great Hollywood show.
Unsurprisingly, a sequel was not long in being started: entitled Star Trek Into Darkness, this second part notably allowed Benedict Cumberbatch to appear in the role of an anthology villain, for the greatest happiness of the fans of the saga!
To (re)watch the Star Trek reboot and its Star Trek Into Darkness sequel on Amazon Prime Video, however, you won’t have to delay since the two feature films will definitely leave the platform’s catalog on January 15!
