New twist in the case between Prince Andrew and Virginia Giuffre. Elizabeth II’s son asks to be tried in a civil trial in New York, to defend himself from charges of sexual assault against Virginia Giuffre, his alleged victim. The Duke of York’s legal team filed court documents in New York on Wednesday, January 26, stating that he “hereby request a trial by jury for all causes of action asserted in the complaint”. The former companion of Sarah Ferguson will therefore respond to each of the elements raised in Virginia Giuffre’s complaint. As a reminder, the 38-year-old American, one of the victims of the sex crimes of American financier Jeffrey Epstein, accuses Prince Andrew of sexually assaulting her three times in 2001when she was only 17 years old.
In recent days, the noose had tightened strongly on Prince Andrew. On January 12, the lawyers of the British prince did not obtain from the federal court in Manhattan dismissal of a civil complaint for “sexual assault” filed by Virginia Giuffre. “I am happy to have the chance to continue to bring the truth to light and I am deeply grateful to my extraordinary team of lawyers,” she tweeted on January 14, satisfied with the court decision. And to add: “My goal has always been to show that the rich and powerful are not above the law and should be held accountable.” She has also sworn to destroy it, as reported by the DailyMail.
Prince Andrew looking for flaws in Virginia Giuffre’s mental health
In an attempt to discredit his accuser, Prince Andrew opts for a new strategy. He hears question the credibility of his memories. In a written memo, his lawyers wrote: “These highly subjective determinations are most likely to be hindered by the passage of time, as the memories fade, that false memories are created and witnesses die or become unavailable.” Determined to find flaws in Virginia Giuffre’s mental health, Prince Andrew’s lawyers have asked consult the psychological state file of the alleged victim, says the Daily Mail.
