Prince Charles is not one to like the unknown. For years, the future king of England has been sticking to a precise morning routine… and beware of missteps.
At Clarence House, the mornings do not take place as elsewhere… Future King of England, who will succeed Elizabeth II on the throne, Prince Charles can count on a staff furnished to help him in everyday life. If his staff takes care of preparing his royal engagements, he must also support him in much more unusual tasks such as preparing his meals or even tidying his bed. And members of his staff also have to comply with Prince Charles’ very strange morning routine, as Lady Di’s former butler revealed in the documentary Serving the Royals: Inside the Firm. “His pajamas are ironed every morning and his shoelaces are also flat ironed with a special iron”, said Paul Burrell.
And that’s not all. If Prince Charles is therefore very observant when it comes to ironing his clothes, the Duke of Cornwall also pays particular attention … to the bath he takes all morning. For his staff, it is a question of not making odds. “The water temperature should be just lukewarm and the tub should be half full”, described the ex-butler of the Princess of Hearts, who added that the bath plug must be raised in a specific direction, that Prince Charles’ bath towel must be arranged to his liking and that his underwear had to be perfectly ironed. And attention to detail, the Duke of Cornwall surely inherited it from his mother. Because like him, Elizabeth II also has very specific requests for her bath.
Elizabeth II: she too has a millimeter morning routine
“While Her Majesty enjoys her first cup of tea, her maid goes into the adjoining bathroom to fill the bath, which must be at exactly the right temperature: tested with a wooden thermometer, and must contain no more 17 centimeters of water”, unveiled the royal author Brian Hoey, in this same documentary, broadcast on Amazon. While Elizabeth II enjoys her bath, her hairdresser Angela Kelly prepares the queen’s outfit and then does her makeup to be ready for breakfast at 8:30 a.m. sharp. Again, the routine is millimeter. According to her chef, Darren McGrady, Her Majesty is still enjoying a new cup of Earl Gray tea (sometimes with a few cookies) with her favorite cereal: Special K. If she is a little hungrier, Elizabeth II eats scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. Something to start the day on the right foot.
