At his first official appearance as Crown Prince, Christian was pleased to have a nice company with whom he got along well straight away.

On Monday morning, January 15, 2024, at 10:00 a.m King Frederik, 55, Queen Mary, 51, and Crown Prince Christian, 18, made their first appearance after changing the throne. After the ceremony in the Danish Parliament (Folketing), a reception in honor of the new monarch was held in the Landstingssalen at Christiansborg Palace. Each royal member was accompanied by a specific person for the occasion. According to the Danish newspaper “Billed Bladet”, Christian is said to have gotten along particularly well with his partner: Karina Adsbøl from the Danish Democrats.

First, Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, 46, and Søren Gade, 60, chairman of the Danish Parliament, gave funny and touching speeches in honor of King Frederik. The subsequent surprise – a girls’ choir who sang Mary’s favorite song elicits a tear from the Queen. According to “Billed Bladet”, Prince Christian had great fun with Karina Adsbøl at the subsequent reception in the adjacent Landstingssalen at Christiansborg Palace.

Exuberant atmosphere in the Danish Parliament

They laugh together and have a lively conversation: the new crown prince and Adsbøl seem to get along well straight away, reports the Danish magazine, which was there. Karina Adsbøl has been Chair of the Committee on Children and Education since 2023 and a member of the Presidium of the Danish Parliament since 2022. She has also been a family policy spokesperson and child and education policy spokesperson since 2022.

It wasn’t just Prince Christian who was happy to have someone to talk to this late morning. Queen Margrethe, 83, King Frederik, Queen Mary and Princess Benedikte, 79, were also accompanied to the reception by members of the Presidium of the Danish Parliament.
