Prince Haakon has been traveling in the USA in recent days, visiting various technology companies and taking part in meetings with Norwegian ministers. However, on the last day of his journey, an unexpected incident awaited the heir to the throne.

King Harald, 87, has been on sick leave since his operation in March – the monarch had a pacemaker inserted – and his duties are being taken over by his son Prince Haakon, 50, and daughter-in-law Princess Mette-Marit, 50. At the same time, Haakon also has to keep up with his appointments as crown prince and so he traveled to the United States of America on business this week.

Prince Haakon: An exciting museum visit

During his stay in the USA, Prince Haakon visited various technology companies and took part in meetings with Norwegian ministers on the topic of innovation. On Thursday, April 18, 2024, the 50-year-old rounded off his trip with a visit to the Museum of Flight in Tukwila, Washington. There the Crown Prince was surprised with a tour and a ride in a glass elevator – but the latter turned out to be a nerve-wracking experience: Prince Haakon got stuck in the elevator with his entourage.

The glass vehicle didn’t move for around 20 minutes, which would be an absolute nightmare for many people. But the Norwegian Crown Prince stayed cool, photos show him grinning happily towards the cameras and chatting with his companions before he was able to get out using a ladder.

It was an unexpected undertaking, but one that the 50-year-old didn’t allow himself to be disturbed by. “It went pretty well. I think the mood was good,” the Crown Prince told “Aftenposten” afterwards and went back to the agenda.
