Prince Harry
Message to the palace? This gesture is a sign of his royal self-image
Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan recently took a surprise trip to Canada. The royal and his wife were on a PR tour for the 2025 Invictus Games and watched an ice hockey game on this occasion. The royal took on a prominent role on the field – and greeted the fans with a gesture that was astonishing.
Prince Harry makes the “V” gesture
British body language expert Judi James sees a message in the royal’s greeting: “It looks like Harry’s body language suggests he’s back in the ‘zone’ as a royal prince, enjoying his royal moment in the spotlight, which is on remembers the puck throw by his grandmother, the late Queen, years before,” she analyzes the prince’s performance in an interview with “Express”. “His beaming smile as he steps onto the ice and his own version of a regal wave, making a V for victory with his index finger and the other finger, suggest that he enjoys the form of attention that was once familiar to him and possibly is happy to flaunt his royal status in both Canada and the US to the family in the UK.” A hint at the palace? Perhaps. However, there could also be a much more trivial explanation for the royal’s gesture.

Royal message or just sportsmanship?
“He was also able to show his sports-loving, playful and somewhat macho side by joking with the hockey players and jumping out of his seat and dancing for joy when his team scored a goal,” James noted while viewing the footage from Vancouver. It’s obvious that Harry just wanted to encourage the competing teams’ will to win in a sporty way. By the way: It had an impact on the team from Vancouver.
