Duchess Meghan + Prince Harry
This is what their first house together looked like
There was a royal time in Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry’s life that was carefree – and they spent in their first shared house, which amazed Oprah one.
In their Netflix docuseries, Prince Harry, 38, and Duchess Meghan, 41, let go of some royal bombs and shot the British royal family violently with some statements. But they also gave such a private insight into their lives that Royal fans have never seen before. In episode four, the Sussexes show Nottingham Cottage on the grounds of Sandringham Palace – their first cottage of 2018, which even Oprah Winfrey, 68, stopped by for tea.
Prince Harry: “People thought we lived in a palace”
A few months before Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan tied the knot in May 2018, they moved into Nottingham Cottage as a newly engaged couple. They lived there until they moved to Frogmore Cottage in April 2019. “People thought we lived in a palace, but we lived on the palace grounds,” says King Charles’, 74, son with a laugh.
It was a “small” house in which “nothing was straight”. “He kept hitting his head because he’s so tall,” Meghan recalls.
The Royal loved gardening in the cottage’s garden; Harry has also been busy around the house, wielding the brush as a painter and repainting the wooden garden shed.
Oprah on the Sussexes’ home: “No one would believe that”
“In that chapter of our lives, no one would have believed what it was actually like behind the scenes,” the Duchess continued. Snapshots of their small living room and kitchen are shown, just a normal average setup.
No pomp, swank and glamour! Oprah noticed that too. She once came to visit for tea, Harry says, “came in and said, ‘No one would believe that.'”
The Sussexes laugh. It was evidently a happy and carefree time they had spent there – in their little cottage on the Kensington Estate.
