Prince Harry
He is “heartbroken”! The Queen’s initials have been removed from his uniform
Prince Harry is disappointed. At the wake in honor of his deceased grandmother, he was allowed to take his military uniform out of the closet again, but one important detail was missing.
Prince Harry, 38, paid his beloved grandmother a great honor together with his brother Prince William, 40, and his cousins: together they held a wake at the coffin of Queen Elizabeth, † 96, on Saturday evening, September 16, 2022 . A special moment when Harry was suddenly allowed to wear his military uniform. However, that had a bitter aftertaste.
Prince Harry is missing the Queen’s initials on his uniform
As The Sunday Times reports, Prince Harry is said to have been “devastated” when he noticed that his grandmother’s initials – “ER” – had been removed from the shoulder of his uniform. Spicy: The initials were not taken from Prince Andrew’s, 62, vice admiral’s uniform, although he is also no longer a senior royal in royal service.
Editor’s note: ER stands for Elizabeth Regina. Elizabeth was the Queen’s first name, Regina means “queen” in Latin.
The Duke of Sussex was the Queen’s personal aide-de-camp in the past and therefore wore her acronym on his uniform. But the “ER” initials are traditionally worn only by those in the service of the monarch. It is unclear why Prince Andrew’s abbreviation has not yet been removed. The absence of the lettering is therefore due to the dress code and not a direct snub to the prince.
Harry’s friend reveals how disappointed the prince is
That shouldn’t have reassured Harry, though. According to the media report, he was so desperate before the wake that he even considered appearing at Westminster Hall in a morning suit. “He is heartbroken. Removing his grandmother’s initials feels very deliberate,” a friend of the prince told The Sunday Times.

Prince Harry and Prince William are said to have put their differences aside after the Queen’s death for the time being and are trying to present themselves as a unit in mourning for their beloved grandmother, British media reports. This already included a joint appearance with her wives, Duchess Meghan, 41, and Catherine, Princess of Wales, 40, and a dinner at Buckingham Palace.
