Prince Harry has renewed his contract for Frogmore Cottage in Windsor. This keeps a door open at home.

Prince Harry (37) and Duchess Meghan (40) have extended the contract for their home in England. As reported by The Telegraph newspaper, the previous contract for the Windsor Castle estate would have expired on March 31. The fact that he is now extending this enables Queen Elizabeth II’s grandson (95) to continue to represent the monarch as Councilor of State if the worst comes to the worst, even though he lives permanently in California. An address in the UK is a requirement for this role, however the Council of State may be abroad.

The role of the Council of State is held by the first four adults in line to the British throne: Prince Charles (73), Prince William (39), Prince Harry and Prince Andrew (62). They can take over the Queen’s work if she falls temporarily ill. So far, this role has received little attention, but now there are serious concerns: At the beginning of the year, Prince Charles was infected with Corona, Prince William was on a trip abroad and Prince Harry was in California. Prince Andrew has stepped down from public duties over his alleged involvement in the Epstein scandal. The next adult in the line of succession would be Andrew’s daughter Princess Beatrice (33) – changing a Council of State is, however, in the hands of the British Parliament, which would have to introduce new legislation, reports “The Telegraph”.

“It’s his home and always will be”

UK residency could also play a role in the dispute over police protection for Prince Harry and his family. According to media reports, legal representatives of the Royals recently announced that he wanted to visit Great Britain with his children Archie (2) and Lilibet (eight months) and Duchess Meghan. However, they cannot travel to Harry’s homeland because it is “too dangerous”. According to the lawyers, the security measures that were in place during his last visit in the summer of 2021 did not ensure that Prince Harry felt protected, British media reported.

According to his legal team, the Duke of Sussex “naturally” wants to visit his homeland “to see family and friends and to continue to support the charities he loves so much. Above all, this is his home and always will be.” . However, a complete move to Great Britain would not be an option for the Duke of Sussex, as “The Telegraph” quotes a spokesman: “No changes to the current arrangement are planned.”

Shortly before moving to the United States, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan had Frogmore Cottage renovated at great expense. The costs of 2.4 million pounds (about 2.9 million euros) and the rent until March 2022 are said to have been paid in September 2020. Harry’s cousin Princess Eugenie (31) currently lives in the house with husband Jack Brooksbank (35) and son August (1).
