Prince Nikolai and his longtime girlfriend Benedikte Thoustrup recently posed together for the first time on the red carpet. Not only did they make a stylish statement, they also caused rumors of engagement.
Prince Nikolai, 22, and entrepreneur’s daughter Benedikte Thoustrup have been a couple for over three years. Nevertheless, they only made their red carpet debut as a couple on June 8, 2022 at a party hosted by luxury label Cartier in Stockholm. This is causing the Danish media to start speculating about the marriage.

At the Cartier event, Benedikte wore a fringed bandeau dress, while Prince Nikolai paired a blue pinstriped suit with sneakers and purple tinted sunglasses. With their stylish appearance, the two drew everyone’s attention – also because they are the first official pictures of the couple. Is it now serious between the Danish prince and his girlfriend? The first public appearance could be an indication of this.
Danish media at least see this as a clear sign. “Royals usually only do something like this if there is soon a more official announcement about a serious development in their relationship,” writes the tabloid “Se og Hör”. After all, Nikolai’s father Prince Joachim, 53, would have shown himself to the press for the first time a few months before his engagement to his current wife Princess Marie, 46, then Marie Cavallier.
Sweet declarations of love on social media
In addition, Nikolai and Benedikte are also revealing more and more of their relationship on social media. Even when they were doing a semester abroad in Paris together, Benedikte posted numerous snapshots with her partner at the end of last year. In the private photos, the couple appeared happy and relaxed – and of course very much in love.
Bene, as her nickname is, recently shared her love with the public. After the Cartier event, she shared two photos of the couple, in which she and her Nikolai are beaming at the camera, he lovingly resting his hand on her hip. “My person,” she wrote and put a white heart emoji behind it. How romantic! There is no question that the two are happy together. It remains to be seen whether they will celebrate their engagement soon.
