The British are apparently thinking about having commemorative coins for Prince Philip minted. The proceeds could finance a monument.

After the death of Prince Philip (1921-2021) there are apparently plans for the minting of special commemorative coins. This is reported by the British newspaper “The Telegraph”. Accordingly, it is in the room to have five pound coins minted in memory of the Prince Consort of Queen Elizabeth II (94).

According to the report, the proceeds from the sale of the commemorative coin could then be used to finance a monument to Prince Philip. Or a new royal yacht could be commissioned in honor of the deceased.

Philip was associated with the Navy

Philip was very attached to the Royal Navy. This was also evident at the funeral service for the deceased, which took place on April 17th in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. A four-member choir accompanied the ceremony with music selected by the Prince Consort and sang, among other things, “Eternal Father, Strong to Save” – a hymn that is usually associated with the Navy.

It is not uncommon for commemorative coins to be minted on occasions related to the British royals. Around the fifth birthday of Prince George (7), the first child of Prince William (38) and Duchess Kate (39), a five pound coin was released in 2018. In honor of Queen Elizabeth II is also as part of her 95th birthday this year a new collection of coins published.
