It is the first joint statement Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales have shared with their fans since Catherine’s cancer diagnosis was made public. The words that the couple have to find hurt.
Prince + Princess of Wales: Statement on the knife attack in Sydney
“We are deeply shocked and saddened by the terrible events in Sydney this morning,” said the written statement posted by the Waleses team on Instagram stories and on X (formerly Twitter) at midday on April 13th. And further: “Our thoughts are with everyone affected, including the families of the victims and the heroic rescue workers who risked their own lives to save others.” The words are signed with “W” for William and “C” for Catherine.
With the publication, the Prince and Princess of Wales react to the terrible incident in a suburb of Sydney. According to consistent media reports, a man attacked passers-by in a shopping center with a knife. Six people were killed in the attack, and the FAZ writes of “several other” victims. According to the New South Wales State Police, the perpetrator was shot by a police officer after a confrontation. According to initial information from local authorities, there was no terrorist motive. The background to this shocking act has not yet been clarified.
