They are the dream couple of the British monarchy and are welcomed with joy, especially as a double pack: Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, are welcome guests worldwide. But the heir to the throne had to go on the current trip to Singapore alone – and first apologize for the absence of his sweetheart.

Prince William, 41, is on a solo mission for once. The royal traveled to Singapore without Catherine, Princess of Wales, 41, to attend the Earthshot Prize ceremony, which he initiated. Long faces in the host country. As recently as May 2023, it appeared that the royal would accompany her husband. But now, on the afternoon of November 6, 2023, he is standing alone at the lectern at the United for Wildlife summit in the Flower Dome at the start of the visit, another passion project about which the son of King Charles, 74, has a lot to say. Time for a little apology, thought the guest of honor and looked for conciliatory words.

Prince William has a solid apology ready

“I’m very happy to be back in Singapore. It’s been eleven years since Catherine and I had a memorable visit here on behalf of my late grandmother in the year of her Diamond Jubilee,” he began, according to the Mirror – and then pushed “And I should mention that Catherine is very sorry that she can’t be here – she’s helping George through his first big trials.” None of those present can object to this argument. Of course, the academic performance of a future British king comes first. Catherine is excused – and without batting an eyelid, William can get on with business as usual.

Sad premiere: Earthshot Prize with Hollywood star – but without Kate

Nine years ago, the prince founded United for Wildlife with the support of the Royal Foundation. The organization’s mission is to put a stop to the illegal wildlife trade. In his speech, the royal explained that flora and fauna is the fourth most trafficked illegal commodity in the world. Up to 20 billion dollars (around 18.6 billion euros) would now be implemented. It represents a global problem “that requires immediate attention from all of us,” William insisted.

He said he is “incredibly proud” that the United for Wildlife network has supported more than 600 investigations, nearly 300 seizures of illegal wildlife products and the training of more than 110,000 people to combat wildlife crimes. Still, he warned: “But our work is far from over, we must be even more determined, innovative and resourceful to relentlessly pursue our mission to combat this trade.”

The speech at the United for Wildlife summit was just the start of his singles mission in Singapore. On Tuesday, November 7th, he will also take part in the award ceremony for the Earthshot Prize, which he launched. This will see people awarded £1 million each in five categories so that they can realize their innovative ideas to protect the environment. The prize is being awarded for the third time this year. The premiere took place in London in 2021 and in Boston last year. In 2023, some celebrities such as Hollywood star Cate Blanchett, 54, will once again stand by Williams’ side in a common effort to save the climate and preserve the world. Only one will be missing: Kate.
