Prince William
Visiting Belfast – This story about his grandfather makes him proud
With his new initiative against homelessness in Great Britain, Prince William is showing a hands-on mentality. He may have inherited it from his grandfather, Prince Philip, according to an anecdote he was told when he was in Belfast.
Prince Philip surprised with his direct nature
Visiting the East Belfast Mission at the Skainos Center on Newtownards Road, he was shown around by the Rev. Brian Anderson, Chairman of the Building’s Board of Directors. The vicar also met Williams’ grandfather, who is now deceased, and remembers how Queen Elizabeth’s husband, † 96, left a lasting impression with his unconventional and direct manner during his visit to Belfast in 2008 – apparently to this day.
In 2008, Prince Philip and his wife visited the old hall of the East Belfast Mission, where they were shown the plans for the Skainos Centre. When he inquired why it hadn’t been built yet, one of the employees explained that there was a lack of money. Philip, Brian Anderson tells the current Prince of Wales, then turned to the assembled politicians and civil servants. “He immediately asked them, ‘Why don’t you just give them the money?’ There was a swear word, but I won’t say that now,” Express quoted the clergyman as saying. He adds: “And three weeks later the money was there.”
Prince William delighted with a little anecdote
William doesn’t seem surprised at his grandfather’s blunt reaction, after all, he was known throughout his life for his rough charm and sometimes rather unroyal gruff manner. “That sounds like my grandfather,” says the heir to the throne. With the anecdote about his beloved grandfather, the pastor seems to have made an impression on him too. Later, William is said to have reported to some passers-by with a smile on the tour: “The reverend told me stories about my grandfather.”
