In the first traditional press conference, Princess Alexia gets down to business emotionally. Because she is being asked about the effects of the threats against her sister, Princess Amalia. She also reveals her plans for 2024 – and is teased by her sister.

“Such a threat is heartbreaking. The whole family is struggling with it.” They are emotional words Princess Alexia, 18, for her first traditional press briefing after the photocall with her family. On Friday, June 30, 2023, the Dutch royal family met on the Zuiderstrand in The Hague for the annual summer photo shoot.

Afterwards, the now adult princess was allowed to take part in the interview for the first time alongside her parents King Willem-Alexander, 56, and Queen Máxima, 52, and her sister Princess Amalia, 19. In the course of this she also talks about the massive threats from the Dutch mafia against her sister and their effects and reveals her plans for the future after she graduates from school – including a side swipe from Amalia.

Princess Alexia: Threat against Sister Amalia is ‘heartbreaking’

Princess Alexia is “extremely proud” of Amalia for the way she dealt with the threats. Declaring that the heir to the throne has been “tremendously in her shoes” lately, she clarified: “I wouldn’t be able to be like that. I think she deserves everyone’s recognition. Such a threat is heartbreaking .”

“Unfortunately, that’s all we can do”

The whole family is “struggling with it,” Alexia emphasizes, and then explains: “The only way Ariane and I can be there for her is to talk to her and listen to her. Unfortunately, that’s all we can do. “

Princess Amalia also has her say and emphasizes again how “difficult” the last year was for her. Since then she has been guarded, has not been allowed to move into her student apartment with friends in Amsterdam, still lives at home, can “hardly leave the house, can’t really go out anymore,” an emotional Máxima quoted the Dutch news agency ANP in October as saying.

Amalia now explains herself: “I think we forget that it affects the whole family and that it is very intense. And that we as a family are just there for each other”.

Alexia’s future plans? “Nice Disorganized”

After her two-year stay in Wales, where Princess Alexia finished secondary school at UWC Atlantic College, the burning question was of course: what will she study? “A little travel, work and all sorts of things,” she said at the press conference. There are “many plans”, but, as Alexia clarifies: “Nothing is really planned yet.” Her older sister, Crown Princess Amalia, just can’t resist the swipe and then jokes: “Nice unorganized.” True sibling love.
