Saturday July 30, 2022, Mike Tindall and Zara Phillips celebrates their eleventh wedding anniversary. The opportunity to return to the strange request that Princess Anne had made to her son-in-law before he said ‘yes’ to his daughter.
After eight years of relationship, Mike Tindall and Zara Philips were married on July 30, 2011 at Canongate Church in Edinburgh. If Princess Anne appreciates her son-in-law, she was however less a fan of his nose and would have asked him to correct it before marrying her daughter. A few months after his union with the granddaughter of Elizabeth II, Mike Tindall had indeed revealed that his mother-in-law had asked him to have his nose redone before the big day. It must be said that during his career as a professional rugby player, the latter broke his nose eight times in 12 years! “It was a light and pleasant comment. It was not a big deal. Look at my nose – can you blame it?“, he confided in a joking tone.
However, Mike Tindall had not been able to respond favorably to the request of the princess anne. And for good reason, surgery would have interfered with his training regimen. In 2015, he said: “It’s not really that I want to have it done again, but I might have to because I actually can’t breathe very well. I imagine it’s a bit like pugs. The problem is, if I do, are people going to say it’s because I’m doing stuff on TV now? Because that’s absolutely not why.“Finally, it was in 2018 that Mike Tindall had rhinoplasty. For the magazine Hellohe clarified:I had a lot of migraines and my sinuses were totally clogged so I had to have new ones drilled.“
Mike Tindall: ‘I couldn’t breathe properly’
During this interview, the husband of Zara Phillips had declared with humor: “I would say it took six weeks, from the time it was done, before anyone noticed. It was great, exactly the reaction I was hoping for.” On Sky One, he said: “Princess Anne asked me if I should have an operation. I didn’t really want to change it, but it got to the point where I couldn’t breathe properly. I couldn’t smell properly, my sinuses were blocked, I had so many headaches and it was affecting my sleep. My exact words to the surgeon were, ‘I just want you to clear my airway and the less you straighten it the better.’” In the game I’ll Get This broadcast on the BBC, he said that the surgeons had taken a piece of his rib, to redo the cartilage of his nose.
