Princess Kate unexpectedly opened the BBC’s “Children in Need” TV fundraising gala. But her appearance didn’t just receive positive feedback.

British television viewers received a surprise visit from Princess Kate (41) in their living room on Friday evening. As part of the annual BBC show “Children in Need”, a TV charity campaign for the benefit of disadvantaged children and young people, the wife of Prince William (41) a pre-recorded opening clip.

In it, Princess Kate first thanks her for having the honor of “opening today’s show.” The coming evening is entirely in the service of “supporting, defending and affirming all children so that they can reach their full potential.” Too many people in Britain and around the world still have to experience “stressful and traumatic situations at a young age that can cause harm and take years to process.” This makes the aid projects that are financially supported with the donations for “Children in Need” all the more important, says Princess Kate.

Kate doesn’t just receive praise for her performance

Many Brits seem to appreciate that Kate took the time to make her TV appeal as part of the charity show. There are also numerous and highly critical voices on social networks who, after her video message, accuse the princess of being unworldly. “I hope Kate announces a 10 percent cut in royal funding from our tax dollars. Think how much money that would raise for charity,” quotes “Britain’s News Channel” an angry critic of the royal family.

Another royal opponent calculated: “Last year, ‘Children in Need’ collected 20 million British pounds. That’s 354 million British pounds less than we gave to the royals. This double standard.”
