After three years of renovation, Princess Kate reopened the world-famous National Portrait Gallery in London today, Tuesday.

Princess Kate (41) reopened the traditional National Portrait Gallery in the heart of London today (20 June). The art museum on St Martin’s Place, which houses portraits of important British figures such as William Shakespeare (1564-1616), has been extensively renovated and modernized over three years. On the forecourt of the building, Prince William’s wife (40) was welcomed by the renowned British artist Tracey Emin (59), who redesigned the front doors of the National Portrait Gallery with portraits of 45 women.

Princess Kate wows in cream ensemble

Kate, who, according to People, has described herself as an “enthusiastic amateur photographer.” and studied art history at the University of St. Andrews, appeared for the festive occasion in an elegant cream ensemble. She combined black pumps and a small black Chanel clutch.

Inside the building, the Duchess of Wales viewed the oil painting “Portrait of Mai (Omai)” by Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792), newly acquired by the National Portrait Gallery in partnership with the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. The 41-year-old also saw the new exhibition “Yevonde: Life and Color” about the life and work of the photographer Yevonde Middleton (1893-1975), who pioneered the field of color photography in the 1930s.

Princess Kate also paid a visit to the new The Mildred and Simon Palley Learning Center within the National Portrait Gallery. Here, children under the age of five should be able to learn and play creatively during a visit to the art museum. Princess Kate also wants to draw attention to the importance of early childhood development for later life as part of her “Shaping Us” campaign launched earlier this year.

The Duchess of Wales is the Royal Patron of the National Portrait Gallery in London.
