In mid-August, Princess military training Leonor started in Zaragoza. For the employees of a shop in the Spanish place of pilgrimage, the Crown Princess’ stroll through the city was a very special surprise.

Princess Leonore17, is currently attending the General Military Academy in Zaragoza, Aragon, Spain. After the admission and orientation phase, which started on August 17, 2023, the official training phase is now starting. The Spanish heir to the throne is thus following in her father’s footsteps King Felipe55, and her grandfather Juan Carlos85.

The placement tests for the cadets are currently taking place. The cadet Borbón Ortiz also has to face them, as confirmed by the Spanish Ministry of Defense. However, Leonor will shorten the two-year training to one year and complete it with the rank of ensign.

For her first maneuver in the Los Leones camp, the Crown Princess still needed some teaching materials and strolled through the Actur neighborhood in Zaragoza with other cadets on Saturday 26 August. According to the Spanish newspaper “El Mundo”, she bought a cover for the maneuver card in the stationery store “Folder”, as well as some folders and a small notebook.

During the maneuvers, the students have to sleep outdoors for a few nights and practice simulation exercises as well as military sports such as pentathlon, horseback riding or shooting. The weapon on the shoulder and a backpack weighing 20 kilograms are almost always included.

“The staff were very nervous”

While the other military students were already expected, Princess Leonor’s visit came as a surprise to the employees, as the store’s manager explained to “Heraldo”. The daughter of Queen Letizia, 50, is said to have come to the store around 6 p.m. in casual clothes with schoolmates. The manager reveals: “She behaved like all the other cadets. It was indeed exciting to be able to see her like this and up close; the staff were quite nervous.”

This is how Leonor’s education continues

On September 19, the novices are officially introduced to military life with the presentation of the sabre. In the ceremony they acquire “the obligation to adopt the ideals of honour, courage and loyalty”. On October 7th, the military students then take their oath of allegiance on the parade ground. For Princess Leonor, October 31st is a particularly important day: Her 18th birthday, when she will swear allegiance to her father, King Felipe, and to the Spanish Constitution.
