For the next two years, Princess Leonor will study abroad. She will graduate from UWC Atlantic College in Wales with an International Baccalaureate. After that, the life of the young heir to the throne could take a radical turn.

Princess Leonor: Your father King Felipe loved his time in the military
University studies are firmly on the student’s agenda after graduating from college. But in the meantime, another route to the throne is apparently emerging. According to the daily newspaper “El Español”, Leonor could follow in the footsteps of her father King Felipe, 53, and complete military training before studying. After graduating from Lakefield College School in Toronto, Canada in 1985, the monarch first went through various positions in the Spanish armed forces before attending the Autonomous University in Madrid and Georgetown University in Washington, DC.
Leonor with the army? An idea that Felipe is toying with. A few years ago, during the Princess of Asturias Awards ceremony, the monarch said of his own military training: “Those were incredible moments for me and I would be delighted if she could experience them too. It makes sense that she should finish her studies first and then do what I did. Though she still has a long way to go, she’s still a kid. Let her grow up. But she needs to get to know the armed forces from within, it’s a wonderful and unique experience. “

Meanwhile, however, the plans for Leonor are supposedly taking shape and could soon be realized, suspects “El Español”. A source close to the family said: “Your father loves the army and it’s mutual. He taught his two daughters that too.”
Leonor has been familiar with the military since he was a child. She took part in parades from a young age and is well aware that her father’s best friends come from his time in the army. In addition, the princess was constantly surrounded by many military employees in the palace.
Government must approve training of heiress to the throne
When the plans for Felipe were ready in 1983, the document was sent to all media, “El Español” recalls. All Spaniards should know how Felipe would be trained, both in university and in the army. It was mentioned at the time that Felipe’s military training should take place “with a minimum stay at all three military academies”. And so it was: The heir to the throne at that time was trained in the army, the air force and the navy. He, too, had known the army since childhood and had no problems getting there over time.
Not only the Zarzuela Palace, but also the Spanish government has to approve the training of the heir to the throne by law. “El Español” does not believe that Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez could have any problems with the alleged training plans of King Felipe and Queen Letizia, 48, for their daughter Leonor.
Republicans, on the other hand, are not particularly keen on military training, according to a source: “They don’t like to see heads of state wear military uniforms because they represent the people, and they believe that the armed forces are solely based on civilian power should be subordinated, accusing the king of his role as head of the armed forces. “
For Leonor, such questions are still a long way off. UWC Atlantic College is the first stage in your post-graduate education.
