Princess Madeleine and Chris O’Neill are probably not busy behind the scenes at the moment: As the court announces, Princess Victoria is also expecting a new task – for which she may need the support of her sister in Sweden.

The move from Princess Madeleine, 41, and Chris O’Neill, 49, are waiting. The Swedish palace indicated to GALA that the couple, who live in Florida, had not yet been able to clarify all the details. As it became known on April 25, 2024, Madeleine could soon be urgently needed in her homeland: Princess Victoria, 46, will begin officer training lasting several months, at the end of which she will have the title of admiral in order to be able to take over leadership in the event of a crisis . In addition to Victoria, King Carl Gustaf, 77, and Prince Carl Philip, 44, also completed this training.

Princess Madeleine: There’s a catch in her sister Victoria’s plans

“As part of her preparations as future head of state, the Crown Princess has been undergoing various forms of military training for many years in order to gain fundamental knowledge of the tasks and organization of the Swedish Armed Forces,” the palace explains in announcing Victoria’s future plans. The 46-year-old herself is “looking forward to further deepening her knowledge of defense issues,” says court information chief Margareta Thorgren.

The only catch: As Crown Princess, Victoria is already closely involved in the palace’s public duties. The magazine “Svensk Damtidning” knows that “both the royal court and the Swedish armed forces are involved [arbeiten]”The royal schedule is compatible with her training.” Thorgren explains: “The official duties of the Crown Princess are still planned. However, other programs and requests will take priority as the Crown Princess’s main focus in the near future will be on defense training.”

Palace takes a stand! Will Madeleine step in for Victoria?

Conversely, this means that Princess Victoria will most likely have to rely on the support of her family members. In addition to her sister-in-law Princess Sofia, 39, her sister Madeleine could also come to the fore: With the planned move to Sweden, the 41-year-old would finally be able to take on more tasks for the royal family again and could thus relieve her Victoria. The logical connection between Madeleine’s return to Sweden and Victoria’s time-consuming new task is obvious – and yet is denied by the palace. “No, that has nothing to do with each other,” Thorgren clarifies briefly.
