Every year at Advent, the Waleses delight with a new family portrait, which they publish as a Christmas card. Once again, Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, posed for a photo with their children. But fans only have eyes for little Prince Louis – for an absurd reason.

“Our family Christmas card for 2023,” write Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales, both 41, on Sunday, December 10, 2023, for the publication of this year’s motif. While the royal model family has posed casually in nature in recent years, this time they are showing themselves in the studio in a partner look consisting of dark trousers and a white shirt. However, the black and white photo provides something to talk about with completely different details.

Catherine, Princess of Wales: Incorrect Christmas photo issued?

Meanwhile, William and Kate are said to be unhappy that their Christmas card is making headlines for all the wrong reasons. The two are “embarrassed” that people think their family portrait was heavily edited, an insider tells Us Weekly, adding that the couple was “as shocked as everyone else” by the reaction to the shot.

The hand of little Prince Louis, 5, in particular seemed to cause excitement. “Is anyone talking about why Prince Louis is missing a finger?” asks a user under the Instagram post on the Waleses’ official account. “It’s all Photoshop…Prince Louis is missing a finger. Very bad editing,” says another fan. “I love it…but they cut off Prince Louis’ finger” and “Where is Prince Louis’ finger,” are further comments under the post. Another detail also stimulates discussion: “There is an extra leg in this picture! How could the photographer not notice that? Omg,” writes a follower.

In the photo, the family’s youngest child’s left hand is resting on the armrest of the chair on which his sister Princess Charlotte, 8, sat for the shoot. At first glance, you can actually see a gap between the five-year-old’s fingers. Well, did the Waleses publish a picture with such a serious editing error?

Where is Prince Louis’ finger?

However, upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that the family has not made such a mistake; after all, they are absolute media professionals. Louis spread his fingers around the armrest in such a way that there is a gap between his middle and ring fingers, which appears brighter due to the exposure.

This also seems obvious to some eagle-eyed fans among her fans. “He’s not missing a finger! Stop creating drama where there isn’t any,” one of them says angrily. A photographer also explains: “If you zoom in, you can see all 4 fingers that he actually has. Spread your own middle and ring fingers and look at your hand. What appears is a point of light on the skin between the middle and Ring finger that looks like a knuckle with the rest of the finger missing.” So there is an all-clear for fans of the royal cheeky badger: he still has all five fingers.
