Official trips are usually communicated in advance by members of the European royal family. But with Princess Mary, 49, an exception had to be made – for safety reasons.
From October 27th to 29th, 2021 Mary was in Burkina Faso together with the Danish Development Aid Minister Flemming Möller Mortensen. The topic of the trip was women’s health and women’s rights in a region marked by poverty, unrest and climate change, as the Danish royal family announced on October 30th, when the delegation had arrived safely at home.
Princess Mary was part of the secret trip because the Danish government asked her to. Development Aid Minister Mortensen confirmed the illu “Billed Bladet” that it was not by chance that the government asked Mary: “It simply makes a big difference whether she is there or not. Also because the Crown Princess is personally very involved in the matter.” Mortensen also emphasized that because of Mary the attention of the trip is completely different: “When we talk to institutions, organizations or with politicians like the President, the difference is big. It is very important that the Crown Princess is there.”
