Princess Victoria: Unlike 10 years ago: Nobel Prize without glamor

On December 10, 2011, Princess Victoria shone heavily pregnant in a dark blue sequin dress at the Nobel Prize ceremony in Stockholm, ten years later she takes part in the ceremony again – but without glamor.

“The sash stretched slightly over the bulging baby bump, but that didn’t detract from the radiant appearance of Princess Victoria, 44, on Saturday (December 10th). At the Nobel Prize ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden, the mother-to-be represented the Swedish royal family as always perfect, “wrote GALA on December 12, 2011, two days after receiving the Nobel Prize.

Princess Victoria: Glamor Appearance in 2011

In particular, the sequin robe of the heir to the throne was a topic of conversation days after the glamor appearance – a sight that was not quickly forgotten.

The Crown Princess was pregnant with her daughter Estelle, 9, at the time, the little Royal saw the light of day around two months after the Nobel Prize ceremony and made her parents’ happiness perfect. The anticipation of finally becoming a mom was already written on Victoria’s face in Stockholm and her husband, Prince Daniel, 48, smiled happily into the cameras.

Victoria and Daniel now have two children, four years after Estelle Prince Oscar, 5, was born and completed the family. The couple are still happy, with their charming and down-to-earth manner Victoria and Daniel enchant the Swedes every time anew and the former fitness trainer has finally found his place in the royal family.

Nobel Prize in Corona format

But today, ten years after Victoria’s glamor appearance in Stockholm, a dark cloud hovers over the Nobel Prize award, which bears the name “Corona”. The world has been in a state of emergency for almost two years, with hundreds of people dying from the malicious virus every day.

In order to get the pandemic under control, major events have to be avoided and contacts limited. No exception is made for the Nobel Prize either. And so the ceremony was held in a smaller format on December 10, 2021.

Instead of 1300, only 300 guests were invited, everyone had to show their Corona passport at the beginning – including the royals. Those present sat at a large distance from each other in the Blue Hall of the City Hall, with Queen Silvia, 77, and King Carl Gustaf, 75, and the Crown Princess couple Victoria and Daniel taking their seats in the first row. Actress Lena Olin hosted the celebration, while soloists and the Royal Philharmonic provided live music. The handover of the prizes in the home countries was recorded by video.

Princess Victoria eschews glitz and glamor

A slightly different ceremony that the Royals did not want to miss under these circumstances. But instead of wearing a tiara and sash, Princess Victoria set an example this year and appeared in a simple black cocktail dress, which – as royal experts interpret it – should point to the difficult times we are currently living in. No trace of glitter and yet a look that Victoria will be remembered for. Just like ten years ago.

However, one thing has not changed in recent years: As early as 2011, Victoria’s younger sister, Princess Madeleine, 39, enjoyed spending her time in America. While her family performed together in Stockholm on December 10, 2011, Madeleine preferred to attend a gala in New York honoring women in science in the name of the Nobel Prize.

Today the princess lives in Florida with husband Chris O’Neill, 47, and their three children, Princess Leonore, 7, Prince Nicolas, 6, and Princess Adrienne, 3. She has rarely seen her parents and siblings in recent months due to the corona pandemic.
