What are proats?

The word Proats is composed of the English word for oatmeal ("oats") and the word "protein". Proats are therefore protein-rich porridge prepared with curd cheese and therefore creamier than porridge. In addition, there are fruits and nuts as a topping, which round off the power breakfast.

What are the advantages of proats?

Proats are not only simple, low-calorie and quick to prepare, they also fill you up for a long time. Oatmeal is also very healthy because of it are high in fiber and contain antioxidantsthat slow down our cell aging.

The curd contained in the proats contains many proteins and calcium, which strengthens our bones. You can also do the oatmeal excellently Prepare in the evening and leave to swell in the fridge overnight, so you have less time for your breakfast in the morning.

Make proats yourself: how it works

Ingredients:

  • 5 tbsp oatmeal
  • 100 ml milk
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 2 tbsp curd cheese
  • Fruit and nuts of your choice

Screw-top glasses are best suited for the proats, but alternatively you can also use a cereal bowl. Mix the oatmeal with the milk and honey and put the curd on top. However, you should do not mix with the other ingredients. Now you close the jar and put it in the fridge overnight. The next morning you add the desired topping, done!

As an alternative to honey, you can also Cinnamon, coconut or vanilla as a flavor choose – there are no limits to your creativity. Popular toppings for proats are for example Blueberries, almonds, banana, raspberries or figs. Of course, the fruits taste best fresh, but you can also use frozen fruit.

Make vegan proats yourself

If you don't eat animal foods, but still don't want to do without protein, you can also use the Proats instead of the quark Prepare with vegan protein powder. To do this, take one or two teaspoons of the powder and mix it with 200 milliliters of vegetable milk, such as oat or almond milk. (Here we show you how to make oat milk yourself.) Then add five tablespoons of oatmeal and sweeten them with agave syrup instead of honey.

If you want, you can also add a tablespoon of chia seeds and boil the whole thing in a saucepan for a few minutes. This swells the oatmeal and gives it a creamy consistency. Then you fill the Proats in a bowl and decorate them with the desired fruits and nuts.
