After the issue of migration dominates all political debates, the federal cabinet decides on tougher deportation rules. However, some Green politicians are now having a hard time with them. They doubt the legality of the plans and therefore do not want to agree.

The Green Party parliamentary group may not agree to the law on easier deportations in the Bundestag. This was reported by the Editorial Network Germany (RND), citing leading party circles. A representative of the party council told the RND that a majority is currently not secured.

Legal experts doubt whether the draft law is compatible with the Basic Law due to disproportionate interference with fundamental rights. These concerns are shared by parts of the Bundestag group. The MPs Filiz Polat and Julian Pahlke have already commented accordingly.

In October, the federal cabinet passed a bill for improved returns, which are currently failing in many cases. The plans are intended to give the police significantly expanded powers to carry out searches and determine the identity of those affected. In addition, the maximum duration of immigration detention will be extended from 10 to 28 days in order to give the authorities more time for deportations. The aim is also to force the deportation of smugglers, criminals and those at risk.
