A 44-year-old Ukrainian was accused of a tricky casino fraud in Vienna. In the end, the judge at the regional court lacked the evidence for a conviction. The Austria-wide house ban in the casino remains in place.
Scene of Casino Vienna: A refugee from Ukraine, a regular guest, sits at the poker table and places his mobile phone. “He adjusted it depending on the dealer,” reports a casino employee as a witness as to why he had noticed the man who had made a profit of 29,000 euros in 2022. When challenged, they also found a card with a built-in mirror, which was also lying on the table. The suspicion: commercial fraud while playing poker using prepared cards, mobile phones and headphones. The man was allegedly in contact via live stream with a person who told him the hand of the other players.Live stream to China?There was a similar case at Casino Salzburg in which a Chinese chat app was allegedly used to cheat. There the cell phone was evaluated by the police, which was not the case with the Ukrainian who is now accused in Vienna. “It’s all just assumptions, the police have no proof at all,” lawyer Nikolaus Rast rejects the allegations. After a short trial, the acquittal: “In extreme doubt, because you don’t just take a device like that to the casino,” says the judge when he sends the 44-year-old home.
