Process – Mechanic turned back odometer reading

A mechanic “tweaked” the odometer reading of cars for more than 100,000 kilometers in order to then sell them on. But the fraud was exposed – trial in Eisenstadt Now the multiple convict behind bars has a lot of time to think about his behavior.

The scam was the same in at least two cases: The mechanic bought privately used cars with a high mileage over the Internet. Then the man prepared the vehicles. But in doing so he made use of illegal means. He is said to have manipulated the mileage significantly. A car that actually had over 300,000 kilometers on the clock, as the previous owner said, was resold by the 47-year-old with “only” 200,000 kilometers.

Defendant denied to the last
The fraud was exposed, but at the trial in Eisenstadt the defendant denied all allegations: “I have not changed the mileage.” However, the judge did not believe the convicted person: one and a half years in prison, not legally binding.
