Process start – millions of black money hoarded – landlords in court

An après-ski host from Flachau and his mother have to answer on Thursday for tax evasion amounting to around 3.2 million euros at the Salzburg regional court. The two restaurateurs are said to have hoarded large sums of black money at home. House searches in September 2019 discovered 2.8 million euros on 206 savings books and 780,000 euros in cash. When the case came to light, the landlord ended his political activity with the ÖVP.

The defendants confessed to the investigation. As managing directors under commercial law, you are said to have channeled a total of 1.4 million euros in sales and corporation tax from 2011 to 2018 and around 1.3 million euros in capital gains tax from 2009 and 2019. Around 500,000 euros have apparently been withheld from the VAT advance registration and wage tax. The accused have already paid a large part of the additional charges. In the event of a guilty verdict, they face a fine in the millions, and several years’ imprisonment is also possible.
