Professionalization contracts, helped but put in the background

Employment policy

The objective of the device

Companies hiring young people on professional training contracts benefit from the extension of exceptional work-study assistance until June 2022, as part of the government plan 1 young person, 1 solution. Unlike the apprenticeship contract, the professionalization contract relates to continuing education. It is often of a shorter duration and aims first to integrate a specific job.

The employee on a professionalization contract receives between 55% and 100% of the minimum wage depending on age and level of education, or 85% of the minimum remuneration provided for by the collective agreement (or the branch agreement of the company if this one is more favorable).

Operation

As for apprenticeship, the exceptional aid paid to employers for the recruitment of a young person on a professionalization contract amounts to 5,000 euros for a minor and 8,000 euros for a young adult preparing for a master’s level diploma at the maximum. An age limit is however set: the young person must be under 30 years old. This aid is granted only for the first year of the contract, possibly in proportion to its duration for a contract of less than twelve months.

This exceptional assistance is granted to businesses of all sizes. The conditions are similar to those for exceptional apprenticeship assistance: companies with 250 or more employees who wish to benefit from it must commit to achieving at least 5% of contracts promoting professional integration into their workforce or 3% if the overall progression of work-study contracts is at least 10%. With one difference: the employer (regardless of size) must send the payslip of the employee concerned to the Service and Payment Agency each month.

Since 1er January 2021, specific hiring assistance for people eligible for a path of integration through economic activity recruited under a professionalization has also been put in place. It cannot be combined with the exceptional aid.
