Harassment proceedings against Cuomo closed
The allegations against the former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo were massive: several employees accused him of sexual harassment. As governor, he took off his hat. There is good news for him regarding one possible lawsuit.
Prosecutors have closed a sexual harassment criminal case against former New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo. After a thorough examination it has been shown that the high requirements for a criminal process could not be met, said the authority in Albany, the capital of the state. It was about allegations that the 64-year-old should have inappropriately touched an employee in his office as governor.
Cuomo resigned in August after similar allegations by several women. He was governor of New York for ten years. “Like most New Yorkers, I am deeply disturbed by allegations like this,” said district attorney David Soares. “Such behavior should be found in a government and not in any job.” Other regional prosecutors have also ended their investigations.
Last year, an investigation by New York Attorney General Letitia James found that Cuomo had sexually molested several state officials. Among other things, there were unwanted touches, kisses, hugs and inappropriate comments. In addition, the governor created a “hostile working atmosphere” and a “climate of fear” for women, the investigation report said.
Cuomo, who came from a political dynasty, was elected governor in 2010 and has since become one of the stars of the Democrats. During the peak of the corona pandemic in spring 2020, the politician, who was praised for his crisis management, was even traded as a possible presidential candidate for his party. He was later accused, in addition to the harassment, of hiding the extent of deaths in nursing homes.
