PS5: 1440p definition, customizable game list, Sony is preparing a massive update

Players have been waiting for it for a long time, here it is finally: the PS5 can now display a game in 1440p. Until now, the Sony console only left the choice between 1080 p and 4K, which did not suit players with an intermediate definition monitor. Other new features are also arriving, in particular the possibility of storing your games in personalized lists.

Back when gamers were still waiting for the PS5 to release, everyone was amazed at the promise of 4K gaming on a home console. A major breakthrough in the industry, the arrival of “maximum” definition beyond the borders of PC gaming was a small revolution… with a bitter aftertaste. Indeed, we then imagined, quite logically, that all definitions below 2160 p would be supported. It is not so.

Indeed, the 1440 p is not to date offered by the PS5. This is a big problem for many gamers: despite the sharp drop in prices in recent years, not everyone is lucky enough to own a 4K monitor and are content with the honorable definition of 1440p. Definition which they therefore do not benefit from on PS5, which automatically adjusts their games to 1080p. Over a year after the console’s release and 20 million sales later, that’s about to change.

The PS5 will finally be able to display its games in 1440p

Indeed, Sony today announced the arrival of a new major update for its PS5. Currently available in beta, it should therefore not take long to reach the general public. Unlike the last update, which was relatively lacking in new features, the manufacturer has this time worked hard to satisfy players. This therefore requires the addition of 1440p in the resolutions supported by the console.

Sony also states that “If you’re playing a game at a higher native resolution, like 4K, you can experience improved anti-aliasing through upsampling up to 1440p output”. To configure the default 1440 resolution, simply go to Settings > Screen & Video > Video Out then select 1440 from the drop-down menu Resolution. It is also possible to test if its HDMI cable is compatible in the same section.

The PS5 is full of new features with its next update

If it remains the major novelty of this update, the 1440p resolution does not come alone. Sony also unveiled a new feature that allows you to organize your toy library into personalized lists. To do this, nothing could be simpler: you have to go to your game librarythen click Create a list of games. It is then necessary to select the titles which one wishes to arrange in this category, then to name this last according to its wishes. In total, it is possible to create up to 15 lists, each containing a maximum of 100 games.

Finally, a few other small features will join the PS5 firmware with this update. For example, it will be possible to compare 3D audio with standard audio and choose according to their preferences. The current activities on the different games will be displayed directly on the screen just before relaunching it. On the online gaming side, Sony adds the possibility of request a screen share to his friends to watch their game. It will also be easier to join a game using a specially dedicated notification.

The bet is currently rolling out in beta. We’ll let you know when it becomes available to the general public.
